Thriller Night!

Instead of us going on about our Halloween event went we decided to get our good friend Rosie to share her thoughts in a review for the local newspaper ...

Having tasted success with their previous events, Through The Grapevine has established itself as a club night that is guaranteed to bring in the punters. To add to their already strong portfolio, TTGV now has Saturday night’s Halloween extravaganza with none other than Stoke-on-Trent’s Jim McShee and Congleton’s own cheeky chappies Sweet Winn Dixie.

McShee is known for his seamless fusion of traditional country and acoustic-folk. He gave a soulful performance with his combination of finger picking and unique voice to ease people gently into the night ahead.

Bringing us back up to speed, crowd pleasers Sweet Winn Dixie were next and proved to be the ultimate soundtrack to a night of mischief. The influences they draw from are wide and varied, from rap and reggae to funk and soul setting them aside from the average band. Not only do they swap between vocals, they also incorporate more unusual instruments like sax and ukulele. For three young guys, they play beyond their years, with sincere and thought provoking lyrics. However they maintain a balance between this and their onstage energy and boisterousness, reflected in an all-singing, all-dancing crowd. Their appropriately timed cover of The Specials’ ‘Ghost Town’ created the perfect atmosphere in a room home to blood-drenched ghouls and zombies.

Picking up the baton were TTGV dj’s, showcasing a mix of indie, soul, funk and modern hits until the early hours that kept the dance floor busy all night.

TTGV dj’s would like to thank Jim McShee and Sweet Winn Dixie for their great performances, the devilishly handsome staff at Illicini’s (in every sense of the word) and a big thank you to EVERYONE that came down. An even bigger shout is due to those who dressed up and made for a very entertaining and authentic fright night.
